Clovis grants

The Clovis Community Foundation is seeking 2008 grant applications for recreation, cultural or arts projects in Clovis. The maximum award is $10,000. Applications are available at www.cloviscommunityfoundation.org and are due Aug. 1.

Meals for kids

The Fresno Metro Ministry offers free, healthful meals to children 18 and younger at its Summer Food Service Program sites. Site locations and hours are available by calling the Food Resources Hotline, (800) 870-3663.

Microchips for pets

The Valley Animal Center and Home Again will implant microchip IDs in cats and dogs at a discounted rate as part of their "Microchip Challenge." Pet owners can bring their dog or cat to the Valley Animal Center clinic 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through July 5 and have a microchip identification implant for $20. Details: 233-8690.

Recycling challenge

Tarpey Elementary School was selected as the regional winner of Wal-Mart's Kids Recycling Challenge for collecting the most plastic bags among participating schools in the Fresno region and earned $1,535. The school received $5 for each filled 60-gallon bag. In recognition of the school's efforts, Wal-Mart presented the school with $3,000 and a tree, which will be planted on campus to commemorate the students' efforts to help the environment by reducing waste and recycling.Mountain View Elementary School won $2,000 for second place and Century Elementary School won $1,000 for third place.
