DUI checkpoint catches drunken driver
Clovis police officers arrested one drunken driver and two unlicensed drivers during a checkpoint on Clovis and Palo Alto avenues, according to a report from the Clovis Police Department.
The checkpoint started at 8:30 p.m. June 14 and ended at 3 a.m. June 15. More than 450 cars passed through the checkpoint, and police screened 436 drivers.
Throughout the next year and three months, 20 more checkpoints are planned because of a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Fire reports
The Clovis Fire Department responded to 155 calls for service between June 9 and 15. The calls included three structure fires, one vegetation fire, two refuse fires, two vehicle fires, one miscellaneous fire, three hazardous conditions calls, 21 public assistance calls, 115 medical aid calls and seven false alarms.
Thefts and vandalism
Clovis police reported seven vehicle burglaries and 61 thefts last week, which included five residential burglaries, six identity thefts and 30 petty thefts. There were 13 people arrested for petty theft.
There were 25 reports of vandalism to vehicles or property.
Items taken during the thefts included stamps, a wireless mouse, Red Bull, toy car collection, wire, bicycles, CDs, CD players, cell phones, computers, license plates, money, purses, speakers, stereos, tools, wallets, a gift card, vacuum, steamer, blower, gas, guitar, ATM cards, alcohol, paperwork, registration tab, washer, drier, exhaust system, air-conditioning unit, skateboard tools and a backpack.
DUI arrests
The Clovis Police Department reported 11 people were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication last week.
The following people were arrested or given a citation for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs:
June 10
Marco Ochoa, 43, of the 200 block of Bullard Avenue.
Arrests
Clovis police reported 20 people were arrested on warrants for various crimes or violations of probation or parole last week.
Twenty-four juveniles were arrested or received a citation last week on suspicion of various crimes including battery, being out of control, vehicle burglary, two or more conspiring to commit a crime, possession of a tool for an unlawful purpose, petty theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, running away, minor in possession of alcohol, drunken driving, warrants, making threats and vandalism.
Six people received citations for driving while their licenses were suspended or for driving without a license.

Juan Gonzalez, 18, of Los Angeles, burglary, two or more conspiring to commit a crime, possession of a tool for an unlawful purpose.
June 6

Matthew Fabrizio, 24, of Dinuba, possession of marijuana.
Gregg Penn, 20, of Coalinga, possession of alcohol when under 21.

There were 16 reports of traffic collisions, 10 with injuries.
Six stolen vehicles were recovered by Clovis police and other law enforcement agencies last week.
