Dear Readers,

We are ceasing publication of The Clovis Independent. The last issue will publish June 27.

This is a painful but necessary step as we face a pronounced economic downturn.

The Independent has served the Clovis community for 103 years, providing useful information about the city, schools and stories of interest about people and places that make up the Clovis way of life. We have won numerous writing and photography awards for that coverage.

The Fresno Bee will continue to cover Clovis news, sports, education and features important and significant to Clovis residents.

Those who live in Clovis ZIP codes also will receive in The Bee many of the fine special sections such as Clovis Rodeo, Clovis Chamber and ClovisFest that were part of The Independent.

In our final edition next week, we'll take a look back at The Independent over the years and share some of our memories of the stories we've covered.

Independent subscribers who also subscribe to The Bee will have the option to apply their Independent subscription balance to their Bee account, donate the balance toward newspapers delivered to schools or have the balance refunded. If you don't subscribe to The Bee, you may apply your balance to a trial subscription to The Bee, request a full refund or choose to have the balance put toward our school program. You will receive a letter explaining these options, or call 441-6219 to speak to a customer representative.

If you have questions, call me at 441-6766 or e-mail me at vbender@fresnobee.com.
