In stadiums and theaters where there was standing room only, hundreds of high school seniors received diplomas from Clovis Unified School District.
Friends and families cheered, flashed cameras and juggled gigantic bouquets and balloons at graduations that began May 30 and ended June 5.
"We love you, baby," they shouted from the audience.
"You go, girl."

This year, 2,459 students graduated in Clovis Unified School District's Class of 2008. Of these, 129 students achieved academic excellence — graduating as a valedictorian, a scholar of distinction or in some cases, as both. These students were invited to submit autobiographical information and a photo for publication. The information they provided appears below. The Clovis Independent congratulates these and all Class of 2008 graduates. We wish them a bright and happy future.

CUSD students honored for overcoming adversities
By Gabriel Alexander / Independent Staff Writer Friday, Jun. 06, 2008During his freshman year at Clovis High School, Andrew Stokes was determined to leave special education classes.
The hard-of-hearing student picked his grades up and proved to administrators that he didn't need any extra help.
Now in his junior year of high school, Andrew is a talented, computer-savvy student at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology. He is one of 15 Clovis Unified students who recently won $3,000 college scholarships from the Foundation for Clovis Schools, a nonprofit fundraising arm of Clovis Unified.
Every year, the foundation selects about three students from every Clovis Unified high school -- including Gateway, the alternative-education high school -- to receive the Students of Promise scholarship. They are high school juniors who show responsibility and hard work at school despite difficult obstacles.
Colds, knee injury don't keep 2 students out of school -- ever

For some high school students, getting up out of bed in the morning can be a drag. But for Clovis High senior Anthony Mazzei and Buchanan senior Sarah Elledge, the school day has become something to look forward to -- it's a goal.
For 2,353 straight school days, Elledge and Mazzei have made it to school. Through thick and thin, the two seniors have maintained perfect attendance since kindergarten.
That's 13 years.
They are the only two in the Class of 2008 to have attended school every day, said Clovis Unified School District spokeswoman Kelly Avants.
