Offensive MVP
Anisa Guajardo
Buchanan, junior
Whenever the three-time defending Central Section champion Bears needed a spark this season, it was the Tri-River Athletic Conference's co-MVP Guajardo who stepped up. The junior team captain was second on the team in goals scored with 25, and added six assists. Her high points this season included a hat trick against Bullard in the semifinals of the Garces Tournament Dec. 15, the winning goal against Clovis in the Valley semifinals, and two goals and an assist in a 3-1 section championship win over Stockdale Feb. 22.
Defensive MVP
Shay Sample
Clovis West, senior
Described by coach Jason Berg as "great in the air," Sample anchored Clovis West from the center defensive midfield position. The first-team All-TRAC selection notched four goals and four assists, and won the team's Most Inspirational Player award. With Sample in the back, teams had a tough task to move the ball forward through the middle.
Newcomer of the Year
Kayln Pottorff
Clovis West, senior
A transfer from Canyon Country High in Santa Clarita, Pottorff made a run on Alex Jensen's single-season school goals record, falling just two short at 19. The recipient of the Golden Eagles' Best Attacking Player award added seven assists. This was after the All-TRAC first-teamer played the first nine games as a defensive midfielder before switching to forward.
Coach of the Year
Erik Farfan
Buchanan
The victories and All-City accolades keep piling up for Farfan. A four-time Coach of the Year selection, the Buchanan fifth-year coach led the Bears (28-3) to a third straight Central Section championship and a berth in the inaugural Southern California Regionals. Farfan is 112-17-16 at Buchanan.
The Rest of the Team
Tori Alvarez
Buchanan, senior
Alvarez, a first-team All-TRAC pick, used her cheetah-like speed to her advantage on the Bears' offense, scoring 10 goals and assisting on another 10. This is the fourth All-City appearance -- a former All-City Offensive MVP and Newcomer of the Year -- for the team co-captain, who scored what proved to be the winning goal in Buchanan's 3-1 Valley championship win over Stockdale.
Jaycee Bingham
Clovis East, freshman
Holding the middle together for Clovis East was center midfielder Bingham. Just a freshman, Bingham, a second-team all-conference selection, scored eight goals and chipped in with five assists in leading the Timberwolves in scoring.
Laura Dodd
Clovis, senior
Dodd found herself around the goal plenty this season, amassing 11 goals and 15 assists. A four-year varsity starter for the Cougars, Dodd was a co-captain and earned first-team All-TRAC honors, helping the Cougars to a regular-season league co-championship.
Vanessa Gonzalez
Clovis, junior
Part of a solid Clovis High midfield, Gonzalez is a master at transitioning the ball forward. The co-captain scored 14 goals and had a team-high 19 assists for a first-team All-TRAC bid. This is the three-year starter's second All-City appearance.
Kacey Held
Buchanan, sophomore
Held garnered a second-team All-TRAC spot after a season that included three goals and 10 assists from the midfield/forward position. Farfan said her vision, intensity and speed of play made her a constant threat to her opponents.
Lisa Hensley
Buchanan, junior
Hensley's ability to create scoring opportunities earned her a first-team All-TRAC selection. The forward scored 26 of Buchanan's 126 goals and added 13 assists, leading the Bears in both categories. Farfan pointed to her well-balanced game and one-on-one attacking skill as reasons for her success.
Sydney Johnson
Buchanan, junior
A co-captain, Johnson led a Bear defense that allowed 17 goals in 31 games. The defender, described by Farfan as "the heart of our defensive line," was a first-team All-TRAC pick and also helped out the offense a little, putting up five assists.
Bianca Lopez
Clovis, junior
Lopez, a three-year starter and three-year All-City selection, became Clovis High's all-time leading goal scorer this season, amassing 23 to run her total to 75. The TRAC co-MVP and former All-City Newcomer of the Year, who had 13 assists, has another season to push the number higher.
Chelsey Marderosian
Clovis West, senior
Marderosian, a co-captain for the Eagles, was a leader on the team's defensive line. The second-team All-TRAC pick earned Clovis West's Best Defensive Player award for the second year in a row and made her second All-City appearance.
Ashley Stack
Clovis, junior
Stack said she considers herself "an assister," and she is, with 17 assists this season. But the three-year starter still managed to score 11 goals to earn first-team all-conference honors. Stack is one of eight underclassmen on this year's All-City roster.
Brianna Witrado
Buchanan, senior
With Witrado between the pipes, no shot was a safe bet this season. The Buchanan goalkeeper and co-captain recorded 17 shutouts and was recognized with second-team All-TRAC honors. Witrado was a four-year starter for the Bears.
