Senior Spotlight: Timothy Arnold Ferguson
Friday, Jun. 20, 2008
I was born and raised in San Jose. My father and mother were Bill and June Ferguson. Both of my parents came from Texas. Dad built track houses in San Jose, and I helped dig the foundations. My mother stayed home to care for the home, and my dad worked steady as a carpenter.
I can remember as a boy, Dad moved the family to Anaheim where he drove a stage coach at Knott's Berry Farm. But he decided to return to San Jose where he continued his trade as a carpenter.
I did farm labor as a young man because of an unfortunate accident as a child and another in my teens.
As a baby, my brother pulled me off the bed and I hit my head and damaged my ability to speak well. I attended a special school for learning. But then I suffered a second accident.
As a teenager I helped my younger brother deliver papers on his paper route. I was hit on my bike from behind by a truck. My brother Tony found me and my bike on the ground and went for help. I was in a coma for months.
I survived that, fortunately, but lost all my schooling. Thanks to my mom and dad, they taught me right from wrong. I also give thanks to my four brothers, one older than I and the other three younger. I am 69 years old. I am married to Jovita and will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, June 21.
A friend of my wife told her about the Clovis Senior Center, and my wife and I came to check it out. I have enjoyed the people there and that's what I like most about the senior center. I have also attended Chowchilla Senior Center and Madera Senior Center. My wife and I are looking forward to finding a place to live in Clovis. We are still looking. We thank the staff members who all have been very gracious, and we are enjoying the Blue Grass Jam Sessions every Friday night.
