Girls Swimming
Swimmer of the Year
Rookie of the Year
Loreen Whitfield
Clovis East, freshman
Whitfield made her mark on the Central Section meet, setting a new record in the 100-yard butterfly (56.06 seconds). The freshman tore through the competition this season, earning Valley gold in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley (2:05.70), and Tri-River Athletic Conference titles in the 200 IM, the 100 butterfly and as part of the 200-medley relay team. Whitfield holds Clovis East records in the butterfly and individual medley.
Diver of the Year
Meaghan O'Meara
Clovis East, sophomore
Another Clovis East school-record holder, O'Meara set the Timberwolves' 1-meter diving mark this season, securing the top spot at the Central Section meet (335.00 points), the North Area diving championships (351.55) and the Garces Invitational. She was third at the conference meet.
Coach of the Year
Steve Baxter
Clovis West
For the 12th straight year, the Clovis West girls ran away with the league and Valley crowns, racing to a 239-point victory at Valley. With a strong crop of underclassmen, the Eagles tore through the competition this season and look to be strong for a long time to come.
The Rest of the Team
Tristin Baxter
Clovis West, sophomore
An injured shoulder that required surgery following the water polo season didn't slow last year's All-City Swimmer of the Year much as she won the Valley 500 free and helped the Eagles win section titles in the 200- and 400-free relays.
Emily Greenwood
Buchanan, junior
The three-time All-City honoree set an All-America time in the 200 free (1:51.64) at the Central Section meet, taking second. She also secured a silver in the Valley 100 free (52.49) and added top-five finishes in her relays (200 and 400 free).
Shelbi Horn
Clovis West, sophomore
Last year's All-City top rookie finished with a Central Section silver in the 500 free (5:06.50) as she placed second to teammate Tristin Baxter. She added a finals appearance in the 200 free, taking sixth (1:56.91).
Amanda Kiene
Clovis West, senior
Kiene was a finalist in three Central Section events -- fourth in the 100 breaststroke, seventh in the 200 individual medley and fourth in the team's 200-medley relay -- to garner a third berth on the All-City team.
Mackenzie Schuler
Clovis West, freshman
Another member of Clovis West's two winning relay teams (she swam the third leg in both the 200- and 400-free relays), Schuler also placed fourth in the 200 free (1:54.42) and sixth in the 100 free (53.62).
Mariah Tharp
Clovis West, sophomore
In her first year swimming varsity, Tharp took home Valley gold in the 100 free (52.27), swam the opening leg of Clovis West's winning 200- and 400-free relay teams, and placed second in the 50 free (24.05).
Kaylee Vidmar
Clovis, freshman
Vidmar provided the only bump in the road for Meaghan O'Meara when she placed first in the TRAC diving finals (314.85 points). She followed with a second at North Area (333.85) and a fourth at Valley (311.00).
Kat Vietti
Clovis East, junior
Competing in freestyle events full of talented swimmers, Vietti was third in the Valley in the 500 freestyle (24.72) and fifth in the 100 free (53.53). She was second and third in the same events, respectively, at TRAC.
