Boys Swimming
Swimmer of the Year
Jeff Daniels
Clovis West, senior
A four-time All-City performer and last season's Swimmer of the Year, Daniels won two individual Valley titles -- the 50-yard freestyle (20.61 seconds, school record) and the 100 free (45.45) -- both All-America times. The USC-bound swimmer then qualified for the Olympic Trials with a 23.35-second time in the 50 meters and a 51.54 in the 100 meters at the Janet Evans Invitational. He was also the Tri-River Athletic Conference champion in both events.
Diver of the Year
Eliott Coyle
Buchanan, freshman
A consistent diver all season for the Bears, Coyle placed second at the TRAC meet (290.65 points) as well as at the North Area championships (296.55). The Bear capped the season with a 291.70-point performance at Valley, which was good for ninth place.
Rookie of the Year
Jacob McGough
Clovis West, sophomore
A transfer from Texas, McGough put his stamp on the Central Section meet with a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.39) and the third in the 100 butterfly (52.22). He was also a member of the Eagles' runner-up 200-medley relay team, which earned a consideration All-America time.
Coach of the Year
Dave Pickford
Buchanan
Clovis West may have won its 10th straight Valley title, but Pickford has had his squad in second place for the last six. This year's team scored 212.5 for another second-place Valley showing, despite trailing Clovis and Stockdale early on. The Bears also took second at the league meet, racking up 452 points.
The Rest of the Team
Scott Beatty
Clovis West, senior
Beatty became an All-American as part of two teams -- the Eagles' Valley champion 200-free relay and the runner-up 400-free relay. He was also fourth in the 200 free and 12th in the 100 butterfly at Valley.
Chris Dominguez
Clovis, junior
Dominguez, an All-City honoree for the second consecutive season, picked up a silver in the 200 free (1:43.72) and swam the first leg of the winning 400-free relay race at the Central Section meet.
Omar Dwidar
Clovis West, junior
Back for a second All-City appearance, Dwidar was part of the Valley winning 200-free relay team. He added a bronze in the 200 individual medley (1:57.43) and tied for fourth in the 100 free (48.07).
Devin Graham
Buchanan, senior
Buchanan's school record-holder in the 200 individual medley took ninth in the event -- plus a sixth in the 100 backstroke -- at Valley. The two-time All-City pick was the TRAC champion in the backstroke (55.71).
Alec Hill
Clovis East, senior
Disqualified in the Valley 100 free preliminaries along with Clovis High's Chris Dominguez -- each swam in the other's lane -- Hill rebounded with a silver medal in the 50 free (21.58). He was also second in 100 free at TRAC.
Brian Pickford
Buchanan, senior
This year's Bear Award winner, Pickford has the school record in the 200-medley relay and had the fastest 400-free relay split of the year (48.36). The UC Irvine-bound swimmer was fourth in the 200 individual medley and sixth in the 500 free at Valley.
Daniel Samarin
Buchanan, senior
After getting in only about 15 practices before the Central Section meet due to a full volleyball schedule, Samarin, this year's volleyball All-City Most Valuable Player, placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.16).
Uaaron Sihan
Clovis, junior
Sihan swam the second leg of the Valley champion 400-free relay foursome as the Cougars placed third overall. The junior tied for fourth in the 100 free (48.07) and finished fifth in the 50 free (21.87).
Tyler Stoker
Buchanan, junior
Stoker's twin fifth-place finishes in the 200 free and the 100 backstroke at the Central Section finals helped the junior garner the team's Outstanding Performer award. Stoker also recorded the team's second-fastest 400-free relay split.
Dan Wilson
Clovis, senior
Wilson scored comeback wins in the 200 free (1:43.62) and the 500 free (4:40.35) at Valley. The two-time All-City selection swam the anchor leg on the Cougars' gold-winning 400-free relay team.
Cary Wright
Clovis West, freshman
Wright burst onto the swimming scene with early dominance, winning the 500 free at the Clovis West Invitational. He was third in the same event at the Central Section meet, and 10th in the 200 free.
